Otoacoustic Emissions

Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) are small acoustic signals that are generated by energy produced via the outer hair cells in the cochlea. A microphone is placed in the ear canal that is able to detect these emissions. OAEs can help determine the type of hearing loss.
