Pure Tone Audiometry

Pure tone audiometry is the key hearing test used to identify hearing sensitivity. During a hearing test tones are presented at different pitches ranging from very low to very high pitch. The person is typically asked to raise their hand or press a button when they hear a sound. The softest sound an individual is able to hear is called the threshold. Thresholds of 0-25 dB are considered normal (for adults). Results from the test are plotted on a graph called an audiogram.
