Vestibular Autorotation Testing

Vestibular Autorotation Testing (VAT) evaluates the vestibular ocular reflex. During this test the patient will hear a beeping sound from the computer. It starts out slowly and gets faster. The patient is asked to look at a sticker on the wall and turn their head back and forth with the beeping sound. To measure eye movement small sticker electrodes are placed on the patient’s face. The electrodes do not administer any shocks; they pick up the electricity given by the muscles as they move. The computer compares the head movement with the eye movement. This test can also help with determining causes for dizziness.
