Hearing Aids

If you have trouble hearing, you're not alone. More than 25 million Americans have hearing loss. Hearing loss is not something anyone should be embarrassed about. There are many options available to help you. The specially trained audiologists at Carolina Ear and Hearing Clinic, PC are here to help you understand your options.

You might have hearing loss if:

  • Family and friends often have to repeat what they say
  • You experience frustration from not clearly understanding others
  • You have trouble understanding speech on television at normal volume levels
  • If it is difficult to understand speech when background noise is present
  • If you have stopped attending social functions due to lack of hearing

If any of the above sound familiar to you, then you may benefit from a hearing aid and should contact one of our audiologist for a hearing evaluation.

Hearing loss may come from infections, strokes, head injuries, some medicines, tumors, other medical problems, or even too much ear wax. It can also result from repeated exposure to very loud noise, such as music, power tools, or jet engines.

Hearing Aid Size ComparisonHearing aid technology is always improving and changing. One of the newest devices available is the Widex Passion. It has unprecedented power for its small design. The receiver sits in the ear canal, while the rest of the unit is behind the ear. This allows the user to have more power with less feedback (whistling).

Another new advance in hearing aid technology is blue tooth capabilities. This allows hearing aid users to access their cell phone as well as other blue tooth devices such as an iPod or MP3 player through their hearing aids. A special remote control is necessary to connect the hearing aids to the device. Some examples of these devices are the Phonak Exelia and the Oticon Epoq.
