Comprehensive testing for dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems to help identify the underlying cause of your symptoms. At Carolina Ear and Hearing Clinic, we use advanced vestibular diagnostics, including videonystagmography (VNG) and cervical vestibular myogenic potentials (cVEMP), to evaluate your balance system and guide personalized recommendations for appropriate treatment and care.
VNG uses specialized infrared video goggles to record eye movements as you follow visual targets, move your head and body into different positions, and undergo warm and cool air stimulation in each ear. Because the eyes and inner ears work together to help maintain balance, these recordings allow our audiologists to evaluate vestibular function and identify patterns that may contribute to dizziness and vertigo.

Electrodes placed on the skin record these responses, providing information about the function of the saccule and inferior vestibular nerve. This noninvasive test can help identify findings associated with conditions such as superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD).
Learn more about cVEMP testing →Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) occurs when tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear shift out of place, causing brief spinning sensations with changes in head position. Our team performs canalith repositioning maneuvers, such as the Epley maneuver, to guide these crystals back where they belong. These gentle, in-office treatments often provide relief in just one or a few visits.
